Going to a decisive fifth set for the first time all season, the Cloud County Community College volleyball team would go extra points in the final set before scoring the final two points of the match to take a 3-2 road victory over Barton Community College inside the Kirkman Center in Great Bend, Kansas on Wednesday, October 12th.
Sweeping the season series over the Cougars, Cloud County earned their seventh win of the season to improve to 7-14 overall and 4-8 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference while Barton falls to 14-8 overall and 3-8 in the KJCCC.
Dropping the opening set by a score of 25-21, CCCC would respond in the second set by jumping out to an early lead and only seeing the Cougars tie the set once as Cloud County would pull away late for a 25-22 victory by scoring four of the final six points in the set. With the match tied at 1-1, the T-Birds would run away with a third-set victory by a score of 25-14 before seeing BCC return the favor in the fourth as part of a 25-12 set four defeat that would send things to a winner-take-all fifth set. A back-and-forth set in the fifth would see neither team lead by more than three points throughout the set, which included a 14-12 lead for CCCC to put things at match point. After seeing Barton fend off two match points to tie things at 14-14 and ensure extra points, both teams would trade points to remain tied at 15-15 before seeing the T-Birds end things with back-to-back points.
