With one final opportunity in 2022 to play in front of their home crowd, the Cloud County Community College volleyball team would cruise to a 25-19, 25-12, and 25-8, three-set victory over the Bethany College JV team inside Arley Bryant Gymnasium on Monday, October 24th.
Monday's win allows the T-Birds to improve to 10-17 overall while having matched a season-long win streak by winning their third-straight game to cap off a 6-6 mark at home this season.
Opening the match with what would be a back-and-forth opening set, Cloud County and Bethany JV would trade points throughout the opening 15 points of the set as neither team would manage to hold a lead of more than two until 3-0 run with CCCC up 9-8 would put the T-Birds up by a 12-8 margin. The four-point cushion would hold for much of the set as Cloud County would eventually manage to grow their lead to a set-high seven at 22-15 before seeing a 3-1 spurt from the Swedes cut the lead down to five at 23-18. Kills from Marcella Garcia and Katelynn Brogan however would put a quick end to the set and not allow Bethany JV to get any closer than the five-point margin as the T-Birds would set for a six-point opening set win.
Looking to take advantage of the late push in the opening set win, CCCC would waste little time jumping out to a 4-1 lead en route to doubling up the Swedes at 10-5 thanks in part to a strong offensive showing with five kills and two service aces. Following a Bethany JV timeout, Cloud County would see their lead cut to three at 10-7 before putting together a 5-0 run that would push the lead to 15-7 and put the T-Birds in full control heading into the latter stages of the set. Continuing their surge, CCCC would manage to maintain their eight-point difference up through the 19-11 mark before putting together one final run that saw the T-Birds score seven of the final eight points to take a big 25-12 victory.
More of the same would be had in the third as Cloud County once again would put together another strong offensive output to take an early lead and never look back. Leading by a score of 6-2, CCCC would see three straight points from the Swedes to bring the score back within one at 6-5 before unleashing a 9-2 run that would extend the lead to eight at 15-7 and put the T-Birds in full control of the set. One final point would be scored by Bethany JV following the run to make it a 15-8 score as Cloud County would go on to score the final 10 points of the match with Brogan at the service line and give the T-Birds their second-largest set victory of the year.
Leading all players in her final home match of her career would be sophomore Kenzie Cooper with 10 kills and a .474 attack percentage to go along with one block and one service ace. The T-Birds would also get nine-kill performances from Marcella Garcia and Brogan as Brogan would add 15 set assists and one service ace while Garcia notched four digs and two blocks. Defensively, Madelynn Wells would lead all players with 16 digs to go along with one service as CCCC would record 10 service aces as a team.
