Hitting the mats one final time before opening their 2022-23 dual season at home next week, the Cloud County Community College wrestling team would see sophomore Ibrahim Ameer and freshman Brady Foster both place inside the top five of their respective weight classes at the 2022 Drury University Open inside Weiser Gymnasium in Springfield, Missouri on Saturday, December 3rd.

Overall, CCCC would send 13 wrestlers to the open meet to compete against wrestlers from all three NCAA Divisions along with wrestlers from the NAIA and NJCAA.

Once again, it would be Ameer who would find his way onto the podium by making quick work of his first four matches of the day by earning two falls in addition to a 10-3 decision and a 12-4 major decision. Three of Ameer's first four opponents would come from NJCAA schools that the T-Birds will likely see later on in the season while a semifinal match pitted the Florissant, Missouri native with Trey Ward of Central Methodist University. With a 4-0 record moving Ameer to the championship bout, it would be the University of Central Oklahoma's Dalton Abney who would score the lone point of the match in what would be a 1-0 decision loss for Ameer.

Foster meanwhile would split each of his first four matches of the day to find himself in the fifth-place match where he would take on Christian Forbes of the University of Oklahoma and earn a 10-1 major decision victory. In his earlier matches, Foster would earn a major decision (8-0) over Ty Ferguson of Lyon College and a medical forfeit over Colton King of Central Methodist while dropping a 6-0 decision to Caden Howard of host Drury University along with a match to unattached wrestler Guy Clevenger.

What's Next?
A chance to final wrestle in front of their home crowd will come for the T-Birds this upcoming Friday, December 9th when Cloud County hosts Northeastern Junior College and Carl Albert State College for a 3:30 PM double dual. A schedule for the three duals is still being finalized and will be posted to www.cloudtbirds.com early next week.
